Bell Telephone Booth, Ontario, Canada

Amazing how something that
used to be so common,
becomes an unusual attraction
to the next generation.

Views of Niagara Falls at Night, Ontario

That falls are lit every night from dusk to 2am.
There is no charge,
just show up and enjoy the colors.
If you are lucky,
you might even catch a fireworks show
beginning at 9.
Check their scheduling for that.

Niagara Falls at night...
the spotlights that light the falls.

Of course you've heard the Canadian side is a better view, and it is true,
Definitely go to the Canadian side, while very honky-tonk,
the view is much better.
If you want to stay nearby but not with the crowds
stay at Niagara on the Lake on Lake Ontario.
You will have to drive to and from the falls,
but I like the vibe better.

Lit with just white...
I kind of like it that way.

We did stay in a hotel near the falls
on the Canadian side.
The advantage is easy access
but we went to
Niagara on the Lake for meals.

This looks underwater to me!

While you are in the area visit:
A Winery - there are many here!
If you have a bike,
there is a flat paved bike path along the Niagara River.
Cruise the scenic Niagara Parkway.
Niagara Glen hikes.
View Whirlpool Gorge by cable car!

Lansdale Bike Night

I never saw so many motorcycles in one place!
The nearby town of Lansdale
held its annual Bike Night
which benefits the Boy Scouts.
(Two thumbs up for that!)

I just learned about this event this year,
probably because I am not in the 'biker crowd.'
Instead, my photo club went to it
for a photo outing.

This event is HUGE!
Main Street was closed for blocks
and lined with bikes
of every make, style and era.

All the side streets were filled as well
as the public parking lot by the train station
as thousands converged into Lansdale
for the biggest bike event on the East coast!

We did experience a brief shower beforehand
as you can see from the photos,
but the rest of the night was dry and pleasant.

More of my Lansdale Bike Night photos are here.

Striking Views of Niagara Falls, Ontario

Our summer road trip through New York State
took us all the way to Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada.

Everyone always says the falls are better on the Canadian side,
and that is because you can see them fall.
On the American side,
you are mostly behind the waterfalls.

I was fascinated with the color of the water
in the Niagara River.
The water is a lovely blue-green,
which is unusual for me.
Where I am from, the
Delaware and Susquehanna Rivers
look rather brown.

Below is one of my favorite photos from the falls.
Standing right next to them,
you feel the spray,
hear the roar,
and see the speed at which the water approaches the falls.
It is really quite impressive.

My son was so impressed with the force of the falls,
he refused to go kayaking the rest of vacation:
anytime, anywhere.
Even when we were below the falls!

I was always ambivalent about going to Niagra Falls.
But it was worth the trip...
especially once we escaped the tacky, touristy stuff nearby
(where I refused to spend a dime)
and found Niagra-on-the-Lake.

See the falls at night here

Other things to do:
A Winery - there are many here!
If you have a bike,
there is a flat paved bike path along the Niagara River.
Cruise the scenic Niagara Parkway.
Niagara Glen hikes.
View Whirlpool Gorge by cable car!

Kitty in the Window

I love this.
The open window...

The kitty watching the world go by...

On a lazy summer day.
