Our summer road trip through New York State
took us all the way to Niagra Falls, Ontario, Canada.
Everyone always says the falls are better on the Canadian side,
and that is because you can
see them fall.
On the American side,
you are mostly behind the waterfalls.
I was fascinated with the color of the water
in the Niagra River.
The water is a lovely blue-green,
which is unusual for me.
Where I am from, the
Delaware and Susquehanna Rivers
look rather brown.
Below is one of my favorite photos from the falls.
Standing right next to them,
you feel the spray,
hear the roar,
and see the speed at which the water approaches the falls.
It is really quite impressive.
My son was so impressed with the force of the falls,
he refused to go kayaking the rest of vacation:
anytime, anywhere.
Even when we were below the falls!
I was always ambivalent about going to Niagra Falls.
But it was worth the trip...
especially once we escaped the tacky, touristy stuff nearby
(where I refused to spend a dime)
and found Niagra-on-the-Lake.
More falls photos are
here.
More to come.
