Buy a Rose?

She wanted me to buy a rose,
but I requested a photo instead.

This lovely lady was playing the flower peddlar
at the New Hope Renaissance Faire.
The NHRF is a rather small street event
in the quaint village of New Hope, PA.

Photos from the event can
be viewed here.

China Doll

Here is a model
from a fashion show
that was part of the Cherry Blossom Festival
in Philadelphia.

I think her face
looks like a China doll
framed in blue.

I do apologize for being behind in visiting blogs.
My husband has taken some time off from work
and we are 'staycationing.'
So my time on the computer has been limited.

The Goody Shop, New Hope, PA

Tucked away on a corner store
in the quaint village of New Hope, PA
is a sweet delight.
The first thing that caught my eye was
this figure in the window display.

Do you recognize the design?
It's Candy Land!
So of course I had to go inside.

And what I found
was a little candy shop
 that was full of
childhood delights.

I could just imagine coming in
as a kid with a little money in my fist
ready to choose a treat.

Remember what that was like?
Looking over each shelf
figuring the best use of your money...

It would be a tough decision
choosing from displays
so colorful and tantalizing.

And so....
well,
reminiscent of childhood.

This little store is called
The Goody Bag.
(How cute is that name?)

The Goody Bag is located at
132 South Main Street
right on the main drag in New Hope.

The proprietors
are Michele Vigilante and Curt Holford
and they are just as sweet
as their shop.

On your next visit to New Hope,
be sure to stop in.
Or better yet,
get over there this week and
 fill some Easter baskets.

I just love privately owned shops.
They have so much more personality
than the same old chain store.
They give small towns their own unique flavor.
So be sure to visit one whenever you can.

Cherry Blossoms Philly Style

This is the first year I attended
Sakura Sunday at the
in Fairmount Park, Philadelphia.

One of the secrets
is to get there early!

After I arrived
I went directly to the
Shofuso Japanese House and Garden
and was able to catch an immediate tour.

Later in the day
lines for tours will be long
and possibly even sold out.

Next I went right over to
the Tamagawa University Taiko Drum and Dance Group
and managed to get a front row seat!

This is truly the highlight of the event
and not to be missed.

Students from Tamagawa University
perform brilliantly
in both Taiko drumming and dance.

I wish I could capture the
sound of the drums
in these photos....

....or the choreography of the dance!

After their program
I meandered around catching
some of the other presentations.

Harajuku Fashion Show

Doshinkan Karate

Shokotan Karate

Shinshin Warrior

All of this perfectly timed
with spring blossoms
made for a gorgeous day.

By arriving early,
two-three hours was enough to tour the Tea House
enjoy the Tamagawa University Taiko Drum and Dance
and see a few other demonstrations.

I stayed all day
but really didn't feel there was a need to
as after seeing the
Tamagawa University Taiko Drum and Dance
you've seen the highlight event.

In the future
you should know you can also catch the
Tamagawa University Taiko Drum and Dance
at other festivities around the city
during the month the festival runs.
Many times without the crowds
and at no cost to you.

Eastern Bluebird

This is an Eastern Bluebird.

I was walking in a park nearby
where there were a lot of nesting boxes
designed for Bluebirds.
I was hoping to see one,
and actually saw two!

Sand Mandala With Lama Losang Samten

Sand Mandala,
or painting with sand,
originated in India 2500 years ago.

The sand mandala is a design based on
ancient texts and is usually done as
part of a religious ceremony or initiation.

Lama Losang Samten is one of only 30 people
in the world who is qualified to
teach and demonstrate this spiritual art.

At the completion of his work,
the sand mandala will be destroyed
to symbolize the transitory nature of life.

This sand mandala will be destroyed on
Sunday, April 10.
I do not think I could bring myself to watch it!

Submitted to FMTSO
for the theme of
circles, triangles and squares - all
found in the mandala design.
