Biking, Seneca Lake NY

My son...
Enjoying the view
after riding from Kueka Lake
to Seneca Lake in New York.

PS.
Woo-hoo!
I have my new computer
and I love it!
But since I switched to a Mac from a PC
I still have to update all of my software.

PC Blues...Again.

I am singing the PC Blues...
My PC died and there does not seem to be
another resurrection in store for it.
So, I have no photo for you today.
They are all trapped on my camera card
with no place to go.
I guess I will be PC shopping...
or maybe hubby will even spring for a Mac
and chase my blues away.

Link up your blues...hopefully,
next week I will have a new computer.

Blues in Ambler

Walking the streets of Ambler
the other night,
I found some blues
waiting for me!

I am away this week and decided to leave the computer at home!
I will catch up with all of you when I am home.
Thanks for stopping by.

Engaged

Send me on a week of vacation...
and when I come home I can't remember the day.
So Midweek Blues is late.  (Blush.)

A couple weeks ago
I told you my daughter had become engaged.
So we took some time
at the beach to get some
Engagement Photos.

The Wetlands Institute, Stone Harbor NJ

The Wetlands Institute is located on Stone Harbor Blvd.
leading to the island on which Stone Harbor is located.
I stopped in with my mother in law and her friend Helen,
 both of whom are quilters.

The idea was to see the quilt that the
area quilters made and donated to the Institute for fundraising.

These industrious ladies make a new quilt each year
which is auctioned off in September at the Institute's
annual Wings 'N Water Festival.

The Institute is appropriately located along the wetlands
where the wildlife there can be viewed and studied.
Here is an Osprey nest with both parents and one fledgling present.

The institute's mission is to educate the public about
the wetlands and coastal ecosystems through
lectures, classes and hands on experiences.

They also offer internships for up and coming scientists as well.
The main area of study here is
the Diamondback Terrapin.

These turtles face a host of threats
created by our modern ways.

You can visit the Institute too -
it is hopping with activity on a summer day.

Stone Harbor/Avalon, New Jersey

I don't live here, in Stone Harbor,
but I vacation here every year.

Stone Harbor, NJ

Although, I am not much of a 'beach person'
as I prefer the cool, mountain air.
So why am I here?

83rd St., Stone Harbor, NJ

My husband's family
has been vacationing here every year
for generations.
Literally.

8/1/11 Thunderstorm at 101st St.

And they are 'beach people...'
on the beach before the lifeguards arrive and
still there after the life guards leave.

8th St., Avalon, NJ

Ick, I can not handle all that sun, sweat, sand and salt.

6th St., Avalon, NJ

I do, however, like the beach in the evening, when the sun is setting,
the beach is cooler, breezier and emptier.

83rd St., Stone Harbor, NJ

At that time of day, I could become a beach person.

122nd St., Stone Harbor, NJ

Why everyone leaves the beach
at the best time of day
is something I will never figure out.

 55th Street, Avalon, NJ

The thing I do like about our Stone Harbor vacation,
is that it is not a big hustling and bustling touristy place.

Sunflowers, 117th St. before Ocean Drive Bridge
Stone Harbor, NJ

It is quieter and quainter than many of the nearby beaches.
That part of the vacation is more my style.

National Night Out: Stone Harbor

Tuesday, August 2nd
was National Night Out in the United States.

NATIONAL NIGHT OUT is designed to:
(Copied from the NNO website.)
  • Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness;
  • Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs;
  • Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and
  • Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
I was not at home for NNO,
so I celebrated in Stone Harbor, NJ.

      There was face painting,

      finger printing,

      coloring,

and a real, live, fire call!

Thanks to all fire fighters and police officers
for your service to our communities!

Don't forget to check out NNO
      in your community next August.

My complete photo gallery for this event is here.
