I have always been the family genealogist.
I spent much time researching family history
and have all of my lines back at least to the jump across the ocean!
And that is into the 1600's on my paternal side.
That's usually where things get tough.
Some lines I have way back...
like into the 13th century,
thanks to a Mayflower passenger.
(Those people have been extensively researched by professionals.)
Recently, I was contacted by a fellow researcher
and by sharing info we opened many new doors...
including this church door!
This church, St. Martin's Church,
in Castleton, Lancashire, England
is where my newly discovered
maternal great, great grandparents were married.
I can't wait to see what records from here reveal.

So I don't have any new photos today,
I have been spending time researching the archives.
Next week I will be tromping through cemeteries in Philadelphia.

My mom is the geneologist in our family. It's amazing the information that's out there and very exciting when you make contact with another person you've never met that turns out to be related to you.

How exciting to find a new record for your tree! I do the family history, too, so I know. I recently came across a little book which added to my husband's father's line. I was doing the happy dance, as that had been a dead end for a long time.

Google Map shows it to be way up north almost to Scotland. West of Yorkshire.

Interesting. Manchester of course used to be the major city in Lancashire until boundary changes in 1974. I don't know of this Castleton in Lancs but know there are 2 others near Manchester, Castleton in the Peak District in Derbyshire and one in North Yorkshire. So you are a northern girl at heart ;-) Fascinating post!
How exciting. I'm from stock that moved west so nobody really knows who they were or where they came from. Probably because many of them were uneducated and records just weren't kept of such things. I know very little about my ancestors past my grandparents.
Very interesting to discover one's roots.
