It was a beautiful in so many ways last night.
The skies were clear,
the weather crisp.
the traffic unusually light...
and an open air light show over the city!
I had attended a photography class with my Smugs
and some of us often do some night shooting afterwards.
The 3-d Open Air Light Spectacular
officially opens tonight with lots of festivities
on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway.
But we beat the crowds by taking photos
of their test shots a night earlier.
24 robotic lights are placed in such a way as to
frame our Art Museum.
(That would be the one where Rocky ran up the steps.)
But they say you can view them for up to 10 miles.
During the official show
all those lower lights are supposed to be turned off
to help appease those complaining of light pollution.
If you are in the area you can view the light show nightly
between 8-11 pm until October 14, 2012.
At which time they will return us to our regularly scheduled light pollution.
In the center, on the bottom of the above photo
is the Art Museum.
This is the back of the Art Museum
as seen from West River Drive.
It really was quite spectacular!

Spectacular is the word! Capturing light is difficult in photography, I think. Your shots are beautiful. How clever of you to catch the practice lights.
I love the fountains! You were wise to go early. At least the pollution is colorful!!
Thanks for bringing the light show right into our own homes!
Rebecca,
Your photographs are breathtaking! You really have an artistic ability. Thank you for showing us this gorgeous light show and for stopping to visit me.
I want a camera that can do this.
Sounds wonderful! Great shots!
I love the purple lights over the vista of city street
great shots!!
Wow, wonderful shots!
What a fun place to take a camera! Your photos are wonderful, Rebecca.
Wow! I've never heard of this event, we might have to look at a trip to Philadelphia for it some time in the future. Great shots, Rebecca.
Spectacular indeed!
I was looking forward to your Night Shooting tutorial - now I can't wait. Can't choose between the first and last shots as favourites, the light show certainly added the wow factor to your skylines!
Oh my! You really know how to make the most of a night on the town, don't you. I particularly like the love fountain.
Simply stunning show. As lost as I feel in big cities, I've always loved the skylines & bright lights.
