Frozen Boys and Girls

There is a note on my freezer.
It says 95 Girls and 96 Boys are inside.

Scary Huh?
That is what my son tells me.

Not to worry,
they are not real little boys and girls.
They are gingerbread boys and girls!

My daughter is making a gingerbread
bride and groom for each of the guests at her wedding.
Isn't that sweet?

This weekend we will try our hand at decorating them -
wish us luck!

This recipe was shared by a friend.
She saved the day...
we were having trouble finding a successful recipe.

Here is the recipe:
Ginger Bread Boys and Girls

Whisk together:
1 1/4 cups unbleached flour
1teaspoon ginger
1 teaspoon ground allspice
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt

In separate bowl beat until light and fluffy:
1 cup unsalted butter, room temp.
1/2 cup packed golden brown sugar

Add:
1/4 cup mild/light molasses

Beat in dry ingredients.

Divide dough into 4 sections and shape into disks.
Wrap in plastic wrap and chill min 2 hrs. up to 2 days.
Roll out 1/8 thickness (but we did 1/4) on floured surface.
Cut out cookies as close together as possible.
Transfer cookies to parchment lined cookie sheets.
Bake 350 for 10-12 minutes until center is almost firm.
Cool 2 min then transfer to wire racks.
Store air tight up to 3 days.
Freeze up to 2 weeks.

That's quite an undertaking with so little time left before the wedding!

I love gingerbread people & the sign on your fridge is wonderful. I have images of Hansel & Gretel in my head! What a cool idea for a December wedding.
