Pile.
That just about sums up my life right now.
There seems to be a pile of something everywhere I look.
A pile of gingerbread cookies for party favors in storage.
A pile of items for the party after the wedding reception.
A pile of gifts for Christmas morning.
A pile of gifts for Christmas Day.
A pile of wedding gifts arriving.
A pile of belongings to be shipped to San Diego.
A pile of registry gifts Bed, Bath and Beyond is shipping to San Diego for the couple.
I'll spare you the laundry pile...
I am sure you can just imagine it.
*****
But today, it was an emotional pile.
At 8:30 this morning
I received a text from my son that the school was in lockdown.
Immediately my heart started racing...
the school website was crashed
and you couldn't get a line to make a phone call.
Finally there was some tv news...
vague news:
Police descending on the building,
a gun, a suspect in custody.
It turned out to be what is called a "misunderstanding."
An AP Bio class acting out how killer t cells work in the body.
Their actions were picked up on surveillance by security who saw
students in camo using an umbrella
to demonstrate killer t cells.
SWAT broke into the class and took into custody kids
who thought the were doing a school assignment.
They had no idea they were considered the threat.
Thankfully, there was no real threat.
I received another text, "All good."
Whew.
Of course, everyone has a criticism now:
blaming the kids, blaming the school, blaming the police.
But I am thankful the school didn't take any chances
and responded proactively to protect the kids.

You're very organized!
Thankfully, it worked out well.
I get being sensitive to what happened in Newtown, but do you think the people watching the camera could have exercised a bit of common sense and done a bit of investigation before calling the SWAT team?
We're all going to be on edge for a while!
Wow!! I saw your update on FB but didn't realize the details until I read this post.
A little scary!
I'm so thankful it WAS all good at your son's school... it's all just a bit too scary these days.
At least your piles are neat and well-ordered. My grandkids just went back to "MommyDaddy Home." And the piles they left in "NanaDiggy Home" look like they were made by a hurricane.
