Savoring Fun Times

I am savoring this last year
before the nest empties
and my youngest heads off to college.
(Am I really that old?)

I'm not sure what he'll do all year
since his besties are all going off to college this fall.
(I certainly don't feel that old.)

I have a feeling it will be a long year for him
and a quick year for me.
(You know, 'cause time flies when you're old.)

So days like this one are definitely to be savored...
by both of us.

You might remember this foursome
from the prom photos I've shared over the past two years.
They're still hanging together.
Besties...

The End of An Era

It has come.
That dreaded ending.
The last charge.
The final crusade.

This travel soccer team that has
played together for 10 years has dissolved
after winning their last game on Sunday.
{Sad}

Seniors are graduating,
upcoming seniors have more to fill their time
and less time for soccer.
Whatever will I do now on Sunday afternoons in fall and spring?
I loved watching the games
and catching the photos that made the boys laugh.

Teammate Nails the Header.

And since I still don't get all the nuances of 'off sides'
I think I need another season to nail that down.
Oh well,
maybe watching the world cup this summer with my soccer boy
will help keep my mind from dwelling
on the fact that soccer boy is quickly becoming a man.
It's the end of an era.
I hate endings.

The Advent Calendar

The German tradition of an advent calendar is a delightful way
for kids, young and old, to count down until Christmas.

Each year, my husband's Aunt Jeanne, sends
her grandkids, great nieces and nephews an Advent Calendar
with little chocolates behind the doors.
Even though my two oldest are in their twenties...
they still enjoy the fun.

And this year, my sister visited Germany
and brought one home for us...
so I get my own!

It has chocolate treats inside too!

There is none for Christmas day.
There are plenty of other gifts and treats on that day,
plus nothing can beat the greatest gift of all!

Jesus.
Merry Christmas!
