The Aftermath

Post Sandy...
The power is back...hooray!

This tree is from my neighbor's yard...

...and plunk, it fell into our yard.

But I am among the lucky ones...
most of the community is still without power
and there is no school for a third day.

This tree fell from another neighbor's yard...

and thump, this one fell into our yard too.

Despite having a lot of yard clean up,
we sustained very little damage.
W only got a little chilly,
and cooked meals on the gas grill before electric was restored.

Another neighbor's tree across our yard.

When one of the trees fell,
my son was lounging on the couch.
The tree fell right outside the window beside him and gave him quite a scare.
Thankfully, it didn't hit the house or him.

The Hurricane

The hurricane,
named Sandy came our way
and being near Halloween it has been called
Frankenstorm.

It is windy,
but I have certainly seen windier.
It is rainy,
but I have certainly seen rainier.
But then, the storm is not over yet
so who knows what will happen.
I am writing this Monday night,
by the time you read this we will probably be cleaning up branches.

I am just thankful I do not live in a low lying area.
We do not typically have to worry about flooding.
What a relief.
But we do usually have tall trees that fall due to wind damage.
We still have concerns about that.

Pretty much everything has been shut down for two days.
Schools, airports, public transportation, shopping...
We are pretty much housebound waiting to see what comes our way.
Looking for things to do...anything to do.

They say rainy Mondays are the worst...
but something about this one seems exceptional.
