Out in Lebanon County, PA
there is plenty of German heritage.
Mostly what would be called Pennsylvania Dutch.

Interestingly enough,
Pennsylvania Dutch has nothing to do with being Dutch!
These people are of German descent.
These people are of German descent.
and are generally trilingual
speaking formal German, English
and their own German dialect called
Pennsylvania Dutch
Here are some handcraft photos from the event:
Brooms by Daniel Michael
Years ago I purchase a handmade broom
and it is wonderful!
Beats anything you can buy at Walmart.
I love scherenschnitte
and combined with my love of Windsor chairs
I can see some of those framed silhouettes
on my wall in the future.

This is a free annual event in Lebanon, PA
at the Harrisburg Area Community College
branch in Lebanon.
It is a rather small event
and not worth a long drive to attend,
but if you are local -
stop in and check it out.

Those brooms look good. Do they fly? ;) [sorry, Harry Potter-influence] That quilt is very impressive!!!
Hmmm, I like that woman's paintbrush adapter. Just what I need for my smaller crochet hooks - then maybe the shawl that's been waiting will get finished. Great shootout!
I love brooms like that too. They are stronger than some brooms we could buy in store. Love that quilt and soap and the handmade painting it's awesome!

Rebecca, you always have such interesting images and stories. I like the first photo best but the brooms are a close second. Love those hand painted chests too.
This is a wonderful peek into the crafts of the Pennsylvania Dutch; it really conjures up the region in which you live. I like it that you include photos of the artisans. Love those brooms!
I wish I had one of those brooms! That would be worth a trip for me!
Would love to visit that festival. Great pictures.
Love the yellow stitching and the brooms photo. Only you could make a collection of brooms look so artistic! The second shot with the subtle yellows and the man concentrating on his task is just lovely.
I would like to buy one of those brooms. and see all the hand crafted work done.
what a fun event. the brooms are great! by the comments sounds like the brooms are a winner!
Love the handmade brooms!
The brooms, paintings, quilts, and then scherenschnitte...I have done many all as gifts. When my MIL passed away, I received back, the Nativity Scherenschnitte I did for her one Christmas. It has to be a labor of love, as it is very time consuming, tedious work.
Thanks for sharing your journey.
