The Amish Quilt Auction in Bart, Pennsylvania

As part of the annual Mud Sale events
in Lancaster County, PA,
the Amish offer many quilts for auction.

Despite their dark, solid color of dress
the quilts are bright and full of patterns.

Here in the firehouse of Bart Twp.,
blue is an approved color for dress
and quilts alike!

Sadly, we thought the quilts were
going for a song.

So much work!
I would be disheartened
if I had made one.

I am sure many people
went home with beautiful
handmade works of art.

The talent and time that goes into one of these is just amazing. I really like the first one.

These are gorgeous quilts. I would have bought one, I think. It's been a few years since I last made a quilt and the thought of starting a project like that is completely daunting.

I don't suppose they have 'reserve prices' - it does seem such a shame that this beautiful handwork should sell cheaply.

Love these posts about the mud sale. We went to a quilt auction at a mennonite relief sale a couple of years ago. The most expensive one went for over $10000 dollars. My in-laws bought one for me and one for my sister-in law. They bid without us knowing and suprised us. They got mine for $650 and my sister-in-laws for $2000. Mine was made with pieces that were over 80 years old! As I was shocked that the quilts would go for so much. I had never been to a quilt action before. It was so much fun! As soon as I get my guest room redecorated, my quilt is going on the wall!

I know that the Amish are known for their beautiful quilts. What I don't know is if they are completely self-sufficient & their prices are much lower (for everything)? If so, they might look differently at it than we do?
Anyways, thanks for sharing these quilts with us!

I love that blue one! Blue has always been my favorite color and I'd love that one in my country decorated home.
My MIL was a quilter and I know how much time and effort and talent go into making these.
My blue this week is a different kind of quilt.

They are works of art. Would you mind sharing one of the sales prices? I recently learned that I own a museum-quality antique quilt and I know approximately what it is worth, and I think these are much nicer than mine!

they are very beautiful quilts--I would love to have one too, I think for the most part people don't realize the work that goes into a pieced hand-stitched quilt. It's nice to know this art is preserved in communities such as this one.

Those quilts are unbelievable! Clearly many hours of work involved! And great photos!

I see that there are 9 links, (including mine) but no one's name! It just give the total number of links! I'll return later and see if they appear!
