The Schuylkill Banks Boardwalk from South Street Bridge
pronounced Skoo-kill.
$18 million + under utilized waterfront =
2,000 feet of over-the-water boardwalk made of concrete.
Two Way Traffic, Just No Cars
I could easily get hung up on the $18 million
for a 2,000 foot long path.
But really, Philly needs this.
Our waterfronts are overlooked and underutilized
and fortunately others seem to be feeling the same way.
Run Little Dog, Run
This new path adds 2,000 additional feet
to the existing Schuylkill River Trail
and makes an easy pedestrian access between Locust St and South St.
And...it's beautiful.
The Community Garden
At the Locust Street end is a green oasis.
The Schuylkill River and Markward Parks provide a
beautiful park
community garden
dog park (very popular)
playground
All surrounded by well maintained historic homes.
Enjoying a Romp in the Dog Park
From the look of things,
the whole area is enjoyed by many.
Red Doors Rule
And the reason I'm telling you this?
A Walk in the Park
Because it is ...
beautiful
clean
safe
maintained
on the waterfront
a skyline view
money well spent
a model
urban revitalization
and finally,
worth a visit.
Urban Colors
Finally, Philly has done something right.
Now, if we could just get the rest of the city on board
with this revitalization thing.
All photos taken between
South Street Bridge to Locust Street
and between the
Schuylkill River and 25th Street
in Philadelphia, PA.

I love Philly! I am going for a few days over Thanksgiving and cannot wait to see the new boardwalk!
the first and last photos are my favorites today. and what a fantastic idea.. this gives every one access to the river and water views and a safe from traffic place to walk, run..
I'm hoping to get there as soon as I finish this bathroom project. I really like to colorful entrances to the houses. I agree, this was really needed.
These are really great images that make me want to visit. The colors really pop out in your images.

That is just beautiful. I love these images and the colors, but especially I love the photo of the doors in all different colors! I have this thing about doors! :)
I think it is so important for cities to have pedestrian friendly green space and this is just beautiful with the city as a backdrop. Well worth the money for generations to come. Lovely photos. xo Karen
