where he had to help companies with their computer crises.

When the beeper beeped,
we had to find a payphone
so he could call in and check on the crisis of the day.

The beeper was eventually replaced with a Blackberry.
Soon I hated that Blackberry too.

every single photo tells a story all by itself. i love them ALL but my favorite is the man on the ladder. not because it is the best photo but tells the story the best of all. and all of these are MEN. that is what is amazing.... great post

Oh, I love the story in each of these photos! How ever did we live without a cell phone? I do however remember the days before cell phones, computers, beepers & yes, even the blackberry (which I had way back when). These days, my phone is my companion, mainly for the easy to carry camera! But ever so often, I do leave home without it. Those were the days.
Yes, there's no getting away from them. Your photos are wonderful. keep telling my kids they don't have to answer them just because they beeped, that they should be in control not the phone but I'm not sure they really understand me.

I loved your captures of these people on their cell phones, kind of like a cell phone scavenger hunt. When Glen started in sales in the mid-90's he had a pager and the pay phone when we too progressed to the Blackberry. I disliked the pager, but I REALLY HATED the Blackberry. We had more fights over that phone on vacations. I was thrilled when we would go to the Upper Peninsula for vacation, because his phone didn't work and I would not let him borrow mine.
It's such a love hate relationship this world we live in....ugh! But, the pictures you paint here are really fabulous. You should consider entering them in an exhibit.

This is a great post!!! The lone surfer and the bar stoop message are especially striking to me. It's a weird phenomenon, these phones. You love them, you hate them, you worry all the time how to control them in the hands of your kids. A conundrum.
Great photos. And so typical... Even the Romani beggars from Eastern Europe sitting in our street corners in town these days have their own phone...

It amazes me the amount of people who are on their phones all the time. I think your photos tell a wonderful story and you captured these people quite well.
