Fortunately for Billy,
the crown owed quite a bit of money to his family
and it was paid in land.
Lots of land.
Land far across the Atlantic Ocean.
Billy named his land, Sylvania,
which by order of the king, became Pennsylvania.

Billy also planned for the city of Philadelphia.
I wonder if he had any idea how
future generations of Philadelphians
would revere him.

When I studied PA's history I always thought it was cool how Penn got the land!
He was always one historical person I would have wanted to meet personally. John Adams and Abigail being the other two. Love the photo of the entrance to city hall court.
i love that shot of his hand.. and i did not know that about the way Pennsylvania got its name or that he got the land.
My goodness, they do have him up in the air, don't they? Bet the pigeons love him.
