The Advent Calendar

The German tradition of an advent calendar is a delightful way
for kids, young and old, to count down until Christmas.

Each year, my husband's Aunt Jeanne, sends
her grandkids, great nieces and nephews an Advent Calendar
with little chocolates behind the doors.
Even though my two oldest are in their twenties...
they still enjoy the fun.

And this year, my sister visited Germany
and brought one home for us...
so I get my own!

It has chocolate treats inside too!

There is none for Christmas day.
There are plenty of other gifts and treats on that day,
plus nothing can beat the greatest gift of all!

Jesus.
Merry Christmas!

Shiny Bright

When I see these old Shiny Bright ornaments
at flea markets or thrift stores, I usually pick them up.
But I don't use them on my tree,
I use them to decorate around the house.
They remind me of my childhood.

Merry Christmas!

Factory Blues

This old factory used to manufacture asbestos.
It closed many years ago and has been a fixture in town for as long as I remember.

What makes me blue is that, along with some sister buildings, it is being demolished!
I know, it needs to be demolished because of the asbestos...
but it was such a big part of the history of our town that I am sad to see it go.

There was a big ta-doo about building a high rise in its place,
but last I heard, that effort was defeated.
I don't know what the future holds for the property.
Time will tell.
